Walt Disney World Mega Post Day 1: Adventures in Air Conditioning

So we just got back from a trip to sunny and hotter than bug #$@% Florida to celebrate the wife turning the 4-0. I will forever curse my mother in law for not holding her in for another 3-4 months. Who knew Florida would be so hot and humid in July/August?

This was one of many return trips for us but Grace's first and as a result, I just finished downloading over 400 pictures off the camera. What can I say, we're Disney people.

On the plane to Miami (lots of flying). This was my first time on a plane with Grace although she has flown a couple times before. She's a better traveler than I am but then she doesn't have to explain to the people in front of her that the reason their seat won't go back is because it's pressing up against her knees.

Unfortunately, because of our schedule, Grace's first park had to be the Animal Kingdom. Not the place to be on a hot and sticky day. Every time we go there I have to remind myself that we are fortunate to live near 2 zoos and that most of the visitors to Disney World don't have the luxury of seeing an Elephant any time they want. But it's still a poorly designed park with only a couple of interesting rides so we only spent a couple hours there and left.

Grace is in a Disney Princess phase right now and Pocohontas is usually on the bottom of her list but she was still enthralled to see the "real" thing.
Waiting to get in to the first of many character meals. Thank goodness we showed up for our reserved time 20 minutes early as indicated on the itinerary. We only had to wait 40 minutes to get in.
There's a better picture here that I missed by a second or two where she's looking off to her side and pointing with glee. Poor Mickey. So used to being the star and having all the kids fawn all over him. Too bad that as soon as he stopped by our table, she spotted someone else entering the room.

Donald has been her favorite for quite some time. She even picked out a sticker to give to him which she didn't do for any of the other characters.

After Animal Kingdom, we took a nap and then headed off to the Magic Kingdom where her first ride was the carousel.

Getting ready to watch Philharmagic. She was afraid of most of the 3d movies. We had to walk out of Tough to Be a Bug but she liked Muppet vision 3D well enough to go see it a second time.

With the first of her 3 promised souvenirs. Baby Matthew wore it for the rest of the week until it was time to pack to go home.
